PORT IN A STORM

Crisis support for the community of Harwich and surrounding areas.

Drop in, call, message, or let us come to you.

Who is Port In A Storm for?

Anyone aged 18 or over in Harwich and the surrounding area. You might be in crisis, grieving, overwhelmed, or just having a bad day. You don't need a diagnosis. You don't need to meet any criteria. You don't need to prove anything.

Sometimes what people need most isn't a service, it's a place and someone who'll listen.

We offer three ways to reach us, so you can get support in whatever way works for you.

Crisis support when you need it

Crisis Cafe

Walk in during our open sessions. No referral, no appointment, no paperwork. Just a safe space, a cuppa, and someone to talk to. Come every week or come once — both are fine.

WhatsApp Live Chat

Can't come in? Text us. Our WhatsApp Live Chat connects you with a member of the team in real time. No phone calls — just type when you're ready.
07587 968 948 (Tues & Thurs 6-8pm)

Community Outreach

If you can't get to us, we'll come to you. Our outreach team goes out into the community to reach people where they are — at home or in the places they already feel safe. Very few local services offer this outside of the home treatment team.

1:1 Support

Our specially trained crisis support workers are here for you if you're feeling emotionally distressed, in crisis or feeling like you're approaching crisis. You can book in a time to sit with one of the team in a calm, respectful and confidential space to talk.

WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU ARRIVE

When you walk in, you'll be greeted by a member of our team. There's no reception desk, no forms to fill in, and no questions you have to answer.

You can have a cup of tea, sit quietly, or chat, whatever feels right. Some people come every week. Some come once. Both are fine.

Our team is there to create a safe, calm environment. If you want to talk about what's going on, they'll listen. If you'd rather just sit, that's okay too.
